The Lowdown: Chrono Trigger DS is a long-awaited enhanced port of the SNES original. The game's look, story, and sound haven't been messed with a bit, all that's added are new touchscreen controls for the bottom screen. New optional features include a bonus dungeon and an unspecified "wireless play" mode for 2-4 players.
The Hype: Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest SNES RPGs of all time, and yet one of the franchises Square's been most reluctant to exploit. Even if it's just a port of the original game, content-starved Chrono fans are happy whenever anything new is done with the property. Heck, maybe this port could turn into a proper sequel...
The Snark: ... or, maybe Square-Enix realized they could make way more cash off of a barely-changed DS port than they could off of a $8 Virtual Console release.
Anyway, some huge new screens behind the cut.

Why don't they show us screencaps of what little new stuff there *is*
I'm with Kouban. I already know what everything in the SNES version looks like, I'm interested in seeing what they've done with the touchscreen.
Well, as someone who never played the original, I'm much happier to have it on the (portable) DS than the (console) Wii. Not sure if $32 is an acceptable difference from that, but still.
Weirdly there are no released screens of that, but the touchscreen is basically a static thing that lets you shortcut to various points in the menu by tapping icons. I suspect it will be very handy over the course of a game.
you guy that are the runners of omgnitendo are lucky I would love to be apart of this I have a nitendo retro game colection and so much nitend stuf like posters, paintings and cased nitendo origonals thair the fist of 100s of the first nintendo games.
Too many good (and a bit exploitative) Square Enix remakes that I should buy but probably won't. If only they were cheaper.
The nice thing about Square-Enix's game is that they get big enough print runs that you can wait a year, hit e-bay, and stand a good chance of getting them for about $20 each. They also turn up in used game shops with regularity, but you're more likely to get gouged on them if you buy that way.
I think I remember reading that it was supposed to get a new translation, too. Exactly how extensive that is I'm not sure but it was said that Chrono's mom said more in her opening talk and that Gato's epic fight song in the fair was different, too.
It also said that the 'Original' original SNES version would be included as a one screen version.
Anybody know anything more on that?
