Konami's New Nintendo Games @ E3 2008: Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

The Lowdown: In the latest DS Castlevania adventure, play as heroine Shanoa and use the power of Glyphs to defeat the forces of Dracula. Combine Glyphs to deadly effect with combos and potent magic spells. Follow the storyline or diverge into sidequests to collect new power-ups for your heroine. This time the action sprawls through all of Eastern Europe, allowing for forest and ocean levels, and there are multiple endings to discover. Compete with other players online via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, or buy and sell items you've found in-game.

The Hype: For the first time in basically forever, it looks like Konami's sprite artists have knuckled under and redrawn pretty much everything short of the bats. The result is the most completely gorgeous Castlevania seen in years, full of huge, mobile, and exceptionally detailed sprites.

The Snark: The Wi-Fi stuff is probably lame, aside from the item trading, but who cares?

This game is looking awsome, especially with all the redrawn characters, though I did notice a few old designs amoung the screenshot.

 

Hot diggity damn! It's always the highlight of my year when a new portable Castlevania comes out.

Now I'm pretty much writing off Judgement. I hope I can stay this course and not have something awesome come out of Ecclesia linking up with it.

 

Fabulous. Revamping the art looks like it's going to really pay off.

 

Yeah, I saw a few recycled guys in the art... but I can confirm from playing the Konami demo that they redrew the zombies omgwtf.

 

Also, are the Medusa Heads redrawn, or just recolored? Not that it really matters, it's still gonna be awsome! I wonder if Legion or any other reacurring bosses will appear in the game. Maybe even some reacurring characters like Alucard.

 

I'm pretty sure the Medusa Heads are the same, judging from the footage I saw. They're such a simple sprite I don't much mind.

 

I'm mostly hoping, in regards to the Wi-Fi stuff, that it isn't going to be anything important, because I'm not 100% sure I care enough to buy Judgment, but I'm such a collection whore that I don't know if I could deal with missing out on Super Awesome Judgment Exclusive Weapon or whatnot.

 

You could just rent Judgement. Simple as that! I'm banking it'll be an unlockable character, probably from amoung Judgements selection of characters. Possibly the previously mentioned Alucard.
