Here's a bit of news not directly related to the show, but that Nintendo was quick to text message all the registered journalists with on Thursday. There is also, conveniently, a press release that means I don't have to think of anything new to type! Check it out for yourselves:
Equaling its status on a worldwide basis, Wii has become the best-selling video game console in the United States. According to independent sales tracking information from the NPD Group, more than 666,000 Wii consoles sold for the month of June, and nearly 10.9 million Wii consoles have been sold in the United States in the 20 months following its November 2006 launch. The system is credited with breaking down the psychological barriers between gamers and non-gamers.
This means the Wii has eclipsed total North American sales of the Xbox 360, despite launching one year later. It's worth noting that this doesn't mean the Wii is the top-selling US video game system, ... that honor goes to the Nintendo DS.
