When it comes to multiplatform titles, Wii owners are usually resigned to getting the crappy one, with worse graphics and missing features. When it comes to Sega's upcoming Sonic multi-platform extravaganza Sonic Unleashed, Wii owners may get the best version of the game.
The June issue of Nintendo Power confirms that Sonic Unleashed on the Wii is not going to be a direct port of Sonic Team's 360/PS3 title, but an original game developed by Dimps, the team responsible for the entirely enjoyable Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure titles. Sonic Unleashed Wii is going to sport different levels, different gameplay mechanics, and an emphasis on 2D action.
Even if Dimps gets saddled with Sonic Unleashed's ridiculous premise, it's still likely to emerge as a solid, playable, fully enjoyable Sonic the Hedgehog game. No screens yet, but full details, such as they are, show up in the June Nintendo Power. Until you can get a copy, you'll have to content yourself with the NeoGAF spoilers thread, or a decent summary.

Man, Dimps has gone from a virtual unknown to the major franchise sequel go-to guys overnight. First Street Fighter IV, now this. What's next, Mega Man?
This is what I was talking about, Avast_and_Ahoy. DIMPS did great with the rush series.
Whatever Dimps did with Mega Man would be a damned sight more interesting than what Capcom's been up to lately.
Focused on 2-D!? Can it possibly be the best 2.5D Sonic out there?
