No DLC for Rock Band Wii, Harmonix Blames Lack of Hard Drive

A 360 or PS3 Rock Band owner can log onto their console's online service and download over 75 extra songs to add to their copy of the game. Wii Rock Band players will have to make do with only the default tracks.

It's a fair assumption that lack of DLC support stems from the Wii's gimpy internal 512MB flash drive. Still, it's nice to have a Harmonix source assert that as a fact. In an interview with CVG, design director Rob Kay bluntly address the issue:

"Come on Nintendo, we need a hard drive," Kay said... "That's what we want. The whole problem is there's nowhere to store it."

"If the platform could do it, we'd jump on it", he continued. "It's something that we championed to Nintendo, that we'd like to do it. Who knows what will happen down the line, I don't know what's coming down the line, but that's the reason there's no DLC in Wii Rock Band"

It seems like an external memory solution could do the trick. Maybe a proprietary high-speed external hard drive? Please, Nintendo, the SD cards just don't cut it anymore.

Offering an external HDD with some Wii Points seems like a no brainer.
