April Foolishness

So, provided you sit tethered to your RSS reader, desperately awaiting updates from this website, some bad news for you: on April 1st, don't expect more than maybe some Virtual Console coverage from Sardius. I've got some serious magazine work to get started on. But also...

... well, April 1st is not a great time on the internet. Too many users don't grasp what is funny or how to tell a joke, so you just get silly crap like Friendcodes.com alleging that Nintendo is trying to shut them down. Not just utterly transparent, but an absolute failure of comedy on just about every level.

That said, there's usually some great April Fool's jokes on the gaming internet every year. I'll have my eye out for them on April 2nd, when the winners most clearly emerge from the losers, and I plan on featuring them on a link-a-palooza on the site. If you see anything especially great, send a tip to omgnintendo@gmail.com. (And you can send tips in the future, if you like.)

Anyway, see you guys in a few days!

Mushroom Kingdom Hearts was a pretty good prank, though. Its only major problem was that since it was a print magazine, I seem to recall that this April issue actually came out in March, which just left people confused. The best AFD jokes are the ones where they leave just enough clues or go just over the top enough to leave reasonable doubt until the reader realizes what day it is.

A serious post about how your site is getting shut down -- APRIL FOOLS!! is not funny. A serious post about how your site is getting shut down, that gradually gets more and more silly and unbelievably over the top as you enumerate the reasons why... well, can be funny, assuming the person writing it is actually skilled at comedy. It leaves the prankee with a pleasant feeling of interaction with the pranker.

In other words, it's only funny if no one gets hurt.
