An extension of the hyper-popular Guitar Hero franchise onto the hyper-popular Nintendo DS portable system seemed inevitable, although nobody was quite sure how it would work. Activision saw fit to reveal to IGN and Yahoo that developer Vicarious Visions has the answer.
What you see sticking out of that DS Lite is the Guitar Grip, a gadget you plug into the DS Lite's GBA slot. It's tabbed with four fret buttons that respond to the traditional Guitar Hero colors, and you seem to hit notes by strumming chords on the touch screen while you hit the right color key. It's a clever solution to the basic problem of how to make Guitar Hero work without... well, a guitar.
Otherwise the Guitar Hero On Tour feature set sounds like what you'd expect. Multiplayer is offering co-op and versus modes (with screw-your-opponent power-ups), but won't support the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. While most console Guitar Heroes are T for Teen due to song lyrics, Guitar Hero On Tour is rated E10+. So either it's featuring tamer songs, or the DS songs are going to be instrumental arrangements.

I still don't understand how you're supposed to hold the DS so you can press the frets, strum the touchscreen and see the notes all at the same time. None of the scenarios I'm playing out in my head look anything remotely like fun...except, perhaps, for the spectators. Unless there's a strap on the back that secures the DS to your hand so you don't actually need to grip it, Activision should just rename this Carpel Tunnel Hero.
I actually really liked the design of the peripheral when I saw it, and can't wait to try it out.
At the same time, this sounds like one of those rare times when having my large hands is a blessing!

"The Guitar Grip will plug into the Game Boy Advance slot at the bottom of the Nintendo DS system. Players put their hand through the strap of the Guitar Grip for a firm hold on the system, and then position the system in its vertical book form."
So yes, looks like there's a strap.
That said, in the promo video for Guitar Hero On Tour, the strap looked kind of loose to me. I bet you still have to work at gripping the DS.
It said into the ds lite but can it also work in the original ds???
