This is an interesting disclosure if you're the type of game geek who likes to follow sales figures. Nintendo's latest financial report revealed which Nintendo titles broke 1,000,000 copies worldwide, along with revealing Wii Animal Crossing and Kirby titles in the works.
Jump behind the cut for a list of all 23 titles and their sales figures, and a little analysis on what the numbers might mean.
Wii
- Wii Sports - 17,850,000: It's a pack-in for the US and I think Europe, so these numbers don't mean a whole lot.
- Wii Play - 9,230,000: People really want that second Wii Remote.
- Super Mario Galaxy - 5,190,000: A good 3D platformer can still, but not as well as it did in 1989.
- Mario Party 8 - 4,350,000: The human race is doomed to choke on its own stupidity.
- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - 4,300,000: Nothing moves like a competent launch title.
- Super Paper Mario - 2,160,000: Nothing moves like a game with 'Mario' in the title.
- Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree - 2,000,000: Training games aren't necessarily boring!
- Mario Strikers Charged - 1,650,000: Online play, even kind of gimpy goofy online play, is going to sell.
- Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - 1,140,000: Hardcore games don't sell as badly as people think, but probably not as well as they'd like.
- Link's Crossbow Training - 1,070,000: It's shaped like a gun?! Oh boy!!!!
- Wii Fit - 1,050,000: Good lord, these figures just represent Japanese sales at this point. Is Wii Fit going to eat America?
Nintendo DS
- Nintendogs - 17,790,000: This is probably counting all the SKUs together. I wonder how the individual sales are.
- Pokemon Diamond & Pearl - 14,170,000: Likewise, both SKUs together, but still impressive.
- New Super Mario Bros. - 13,140,000: Give us more 2D platformers, Nintendo.
- Brain Age - 11,710,000: Training games can sell!
- Brain Age 2 - 9,840,000: Oh boy, can training games ever sell!
- Mario Kart DS - 9,670,000: Mario Kart with online? Yes plz.
- Animal Crossing Wild World - 9,200,000: I can't begin to comprehend this game, but it's good at what it does.
- Super Mario 64 DS - 5,780,000: Launch titles sell, even when they're ports!
- Big Brain Academy - 4,610,000: Did we mention that training games sell?
- The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - 3,820,000: Cel shading is not necessarily bad.
- Pokemon Ranger - 2,610,000: Anything with 'Pokemon' in the title sells, and sometimes this is not a good thing.
- Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - 1,540,000: Yet, sometimes, it is a very good thing.

Man, Link's Crossbow Training is way up there. I didn't really expect it to go over that well for some reason. Metroid's doing pretty good too, considering it's not even out in Japan yet. Then again, if the rumor's true that Japan hates the Metroid series, it may not matter much.
Also I think I know why Sega's translating Shiren now! They're setting themselves up for some real heartbreak if they expect to match even a small portion of PMD's sales, though.
Well, if they even catch 1/3 of PMD's audience that's about 500,000 copies, which isn't a flop by any means.
I was wondering when they'd make a Kirby title for the Wii. I hope it's as good as the DS offering.
