More Johnny Chung Lee Interviews

Another day, a few more interviews with the famous Mr. Lee. These interviews aren't quite as good as the Game Informer interview I posted yesterday, but they both come from much smaller and obviously more enthusiastic-oriented outlets. Even when the questions aren't so great, Lee's responses are still pretty brilliant. In the interests of fairness, I've tucked both behind the cut so you can check out a sample before you click over.

From the Hacked Gadgets interview:

AP: Your Wii projects have been taking the Web by storm! What attracted you to the Wiimote as your interaction device of choice?

JL: Well, I was excited by the Wii Remote ever since the original press release about its capabilities was public. Ironically, I was an intern at Microsoft the summer before the Xbox 360 was launched. Several internal people, including me, were still trying to convince the Xbox group they should put an accelerometer into the controller. That, of course, didnt happen. The Wii remote is one of the most sophisticated input devices available today and an amazing piece of engineering containing an accelerometer, camera, and wireless communication. Combined with the ease in which you can connect it to a computer made it an obvious choice for experimentation.

And from the Games Cathedral interview:

[Games Cathedral]: Your next wiimote project is 3D tracking. What can we expect? Is this project going to be as awesome as head tracking?

Well, I still dont have a good sense at what will be judged to be awesome. Its always hard to judge public reaction. But personally, I think its on par with my previous wii projects. Only time will tell. The nice thing about 3D tracking is that you could motion track your hands, your feet, your torso, or a piece of sporting equipment you might be holding. This would provide much more accurate and realistic simulations over games currently using the accelerometer. Games that react correctly to physical motion or involve exercise are an increasingly popular concept.
