Wii Officially Hacked

Thus far what hackers have been able to do with the Wii has been fairly limited-- getting units to play burned .isos, mostly. That may be about to change, soon. At the 24th Annual Chaos Communication Congress (or just 24c3 for short), held in Germany, there was a "proof of concept" demo showing the Wii outputting data thanks to a homebrew boot .iso that tricked it into thinking it was running Lego Star Wars.

This is a big deal because previously hackers could only get the Wii to activate in "GameCube mode", which didn't offer any access to the USB hubs or Bluetooth. There's no actual software that takes advantage of this yet, but it's only a matter of time at this point. If you want, you can check out the video of the demo and learn a lot of interesting things about the Wii's internal workings.
