Suspicous Nintendo Site Update Hints at New VC Systems

Dec. 18 11:14 PM by Lynxara

Quick, go check out the Japanese Virtual Console page. Hmm. There's spots for eight systems there now, and the last two slots are greyed out.

The immediate suspicion is that this means Sega Master System titles are about to head to the Virtual Console line-up, and that eighth slot... well, it could be anything, couldn't it? My guess would be old black-and-white Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles, since right now they're the only Nintendo system libraries not supported by any system.

Of course, that assumes this update turns out to be anything interesting at all.

Oh boy, we'll get to see a revival of the Virtual Boy AT LAST!!

I know for certain that I am completely alone in this, and I will probably face ridicule, but that being said I figured I should type it anyway.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing some of Nintendo's Virtual Boy games be given a "second chance". At least VB Wario Land could stand to be given a rerelease considering how few people have ever actually played it. And just think about being able to play some of the better VB games in an actual comfortable position.

There I said it. Course its a moot point anyway seeing as I can't see how one would go about making these games work on a television screen. (Handouts of 3D glasses? I'm sure that would go over well.)

VB Wario Land is actually my favorite Wario platformer! I beat it many times. Also, I always loved the Mario Tennis game. That's uhh, pretty much it though on games I liked. Mario Clash was ok, and it just kinda goes down from there.

I was just joking about the extremely high improbability of the VB getting postmortem recognition.

I also think more consoles are on the way--why else would they have a scroll bar when you're viewing the systems/consoles on the VC shopping channel?

Virtual Boy would be cool. I hope they do 3DO and Sega Saturn.

I've been speculating for a while that there will be a Virtual Boy 2 "console" eventually, this time with full color support instead of just red. If I remember correctly, the technology to do this existed when the original Virtual Boy was released... it was just too costly.

3DO or Saturn strike me as unlikely just because of the Wii storage problem. Right now N64 games eat up tons of space, and games on a CD-based system are going to be even larger.

I bet you anything it's going to be Master System and MSX.

Kind of boring, yeah, but at least it means that we might see the Phantasy Star series soon.

Was there a rumor of GB and GBC games being on the DS on a memory card like the DS's own VC?

Oh damn, I didn't think MSX. Isn't that Sony, though?

Yeah, there is a rumor about the DS getting the ability to play old GB and GBC games via flashcart... but there's also rumors of a next-gen DS in 2009 that abandons GBA support completely.

MSX is actually Microsoft, funnily enough. I remember it being officially announced as a future VC addition awhile back, so this would make sense. SMS is practically a given at some point too, if it's not one of the two.

That's odd. I actually thought there already were MSX releases on the VC in Japan. I know I've seen the (proposed) pricing structure when looking up game information on there before now.

Two games projected for "2007 Autumn or later". This is where I saw the pricing, I think, or at least it's the same information.

The graphic for MSX has been around on here (LINKS OMITTED) for a while.

Gah. The first one is the root Nintendo Japan website URL, followed by "/wii/vc/lineup.html#msx"

The second one is the root Nintendo Japan website URL, followed by "/wii/features/virtual_console.html"
