So a few days ago we posted some very complimentary things about Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and talked a bit about the game's ability to read savestates from the GameCube game Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Well, it turns out the savestate-loading feature is a bit buggy, and you need to be really careful about how you try to import your savedata. Here's a step-by-step to help you out if the savedata bug is harshing your tactical buzz.
1) Make sure there's no Easy savedata on your memory card.
The Easy mode in Path of Radiance was exclusive to the US version, and Radiant Dawn doesn't know how to interpret it. If there's Easy mode save data anywhere on your memory card, Radiant Dawn is likely to choke while trying to import any other savegame. It's best to simply delete any Easy savedata before importing.
2) If your savedata is from Normal mode, make sure it's in your memory card's first position.
In the Japanese version of Path of Radiance, Normal was "Easy". So, Radiant Dawn can understand it... sometimes. The only way to have a reasonable chance at importing a Normal Path of Radiance save is to make sure it's the first thing on your memory card. Deleting everything else on the card can also help your chances of getting a successful import.
3) If you want savedata purely for importing into Radiant Dawn, play the game on Hard mode.
Radiant Dawn seems to have the easiest time recognizing Hard Mode data (especially if it's in the first position of a card with no other savegames on it). So if you're playing Path of Radiance on your Wii purely so you can import data into Radiant Dawn, try to play on Hard Mode if at all possible. This seems to result in the highest chance of a successful import.
