In just a few weeks, WiiWare has gone from a shovelware dumping ground to a housing of some of the best downloadable games. World of Goo, Mega Man 9 and the Art Style games have all elevated WiiWare to a very respectable service. Now Nintendo is back with its third Art Style game, Art Style: ROTOHEX. Is it possible to go 3 for 3 in the series?

Like all Art Style games, ROTOHEX is incredibly simple. The object of the game is to form small hexagons of the same color inside of a large empty hexagon. There are triangle pieces constantly falling from the top of the screen into the hexagon playing field. You can rotate the triangles in an attempt to match enough pieces to form a hexagon. When you form a solid color hexagon, it will disappear. The game will end if you fill up the hexagon. As the game progresses, you'll have more and more colors added. It takes awhile to get a hang of the concept, but once you do, it's fun and challenging.

ROTOHEX is a remake of the bit Generations game Dialhex, so if you've played that title, you know what to expect. The graphics of the game are very plain, but they get the job done. There's simply a big empty hexagon over a black background with colored triangle pieces. There's no music to speak of in the game. In fact, there's hardly any sound. This is truly a stripped down game, but because of the nature of the Art Style series, it's not a bad thing. It really puts gaming back to basics.

If you're into challenging puzzle games, ROTOHEX will definitely interest you. It's not revolutionary in any sense, but it's well-designed puzzle fun. If you want to game with a friend, there's even a really fun cooperative mode. In addition to the solo and cooperative mode, you can unlock a endless mode for even more hexagon madness.

ROTOHEX isn't the best Art Style game, but it's definitely worth picking up with the low price tag and fun gameplay. With games like this, WiiWare is quickly becoming the premier place to be if the puzzle genre is your favorite.World of Goo, give ROTOHEX a look.
