The simple mechanic of guiding a metal ball through a wooden maze has always been an entertaining game to me. It's a formula that hasn't been overused and remains classic fun. One of my favorite iPhone game happens to be Labyrinth, so I was excited to get some ball guiding madness in on the Wii. The system already has a fantastic labyrinth game called Kororinpa. It comes at a hefty price, however, so a cheap WiiWare version of the game would work out nicely. Sadly, The Incredible Maze is anything but incredible.
Well, there is one thing incredible about it, and that's how incredibly simple it is. From the bare menus to music, there's not much here. You tilt the Wii Remote to tilt the maze on screen, which moves the ball in the process. There are holes throughout the maze that you can fall through, which sets you back on the stage. It sounds like classic labyrinth, and it is. However, there are a few serious problems that ruin it.
The controls are horrible. They're way too sensitive and never seem to work like they should. You can't really control how much you're tilting the maze. In a game like labyrinth, you need very precise controls, but The Incredible Maze's are simply awful. Labyrinth games are usually frustrating, but also fun in the process. The Incredible Maze is always frustrating to a point where you don't want to play.
The graphics aren't very good. The maze and ball are both very jagged and look cheaply produced. In a game like this, it wouldn't of been that big of a deal, but the fact that the gameplay is so poor makes the graphics seem even worse.
