Nintendo unveiled a surprising line-up of new Wii titles at the Tokyo Press Conference today, some of which are already confirmed for North American release in 2009. Incidentally, this may put the final nail in the coffin for Disaster: Day of Crisis in North America, as there was no sign of it in the Nintendo line-up at the San Francisco press conference.
Probably the most surprising confirmation for North American release is Sin and Punishment 2, the sequel to the import-only N64 original that is currently available in the US on the Virtual Console. The decision to release the sequel in North America was based on the original's exceptionally strong sales as a VC release.
More behind the cut...
Less of a surprise but certainly welcome is Punch-Out!!, the Wii revival rumored but absent at E3. As you can see from the trailer, this new version seems very close to the NES original as you still play Little Mac and fight the likes of Glass Joe and King Hippo. Now, though, you've got some sweet cel-shaded graphics and an arsenal of super moves at your disposal.
Announced but with no cool trailers for me to show you is a Wii version of Another Code, the DS game better known in the US as Trace Memory, and Endless Ocean 2, a sequel to the oft-dismissed Wii scuba diving sim. Some other stuff was announced, too, but a lot of it isn't worth discussing until It's confirmed for North American release. In the meantime, enjoy getting psyched up for Sin & Punishment 2 and Punch-Out!!. That's what I'll be doing, anyway...

Not only is it great to see Punch Out return, but I'm also happy to see Little Mac as the main character. Guess Captain Rainbow succeeded in getting him fit after all.
Also is it just me or does his new look kind of make him look like Mike from Star Tropics?
I would bet dollars to doughnuts that the new Mario and Luigi has a North American release.
Man, people I know who haven't really been totally into games since they were younger are stoked about Punch-Out!!
I especially loved the "Kaiser" rolls after that star punch. Hopefully they have several animations for the star punches, because I really want to see him jump up in the air and jack some people in the face in addition to the pose-like shot he takes in the trailer.
